Tips on How to Reduce your Premiums

Here are some major ways you can save money on your car insurance premiums:

  • Try increasing your deductible for either your collision or comprehensive coverage.  If you have enough cash saved up, likely you will be able to pay the extra amount in case of an accident, and save money in the long run.
  • Try driving less.  Some insurance providers will give a discount to people who drive less than 7500 miles per year.  Try taking a bike or the city bus (or a trike).  If you live near your coworkers, then perhaps try carpooling.
  • Instead of renewing your policy every time it is due, take a look at other insurers rates.  It is likely that you will be able to find something cheaper.  If you don’t, at least you know you have the best price.
  • Drop collision coverage for cars not worth that much.  Older vehicles usually have a really low value.  If your car is damaged or totaled, likely you won’t receive much.  Try dropping the coverage and save up enough cash in the bank that you’ll be able to replace your vehicle if it is lost.
  • Get all the discounts you are entitled to.  Sometimes you won’t know there are discounts for certain things unless you ask.  Married people usually have better rates than single people.  Also if you a student with good grades, you’ll get a discount.  Ask your agent for possible savings you could receive.
  • Drive Safer!  The biggest cost factor in your car insurance rate is your driving record.  Avoid accidents by being defensive.  You’ll also save money from costly tickets or car replacement.
